ImmiAccount error messages and how to fix them
On this page
What does Home Affairs tell you to check first?
Its page on common issues asks you to rule out these four problems before you contact the department:
| Check first | What the department says |
|---|---|
| System maintenance or technical faults | Outages can stop logins and lodgements |
| Payment problems | Common |
| Attachment problems | Common |
| Online lodgement error messages | Common |
The page does not list individual error messages or fixes. The sections below combine what Home Affairs says with practical advice from migration professionals, and we label which is which.
Attaching documents
What Home Affairs says - The documents you need depend on the application type, and the application form tells you which ones and when. - Do not email documents to the department. - You can't attach documents to a finalised application. - You can't open your uploaded supporting documents in ImmiAccount afterwards, so keep your own copies.
What practitioners report (not an official rule)
If an upload fails, try a smaller file, remove any password protection, and try another browser.
Payment problems
Home Affairs calls payment problems common and has a separate page on how to pay for online applications.
Contact your bank before you try repeatedly.
"System is currently unavailable" and other page errors
- Wait and try again later.
- Clear your browser history, cookies and cached files, or try a private window.
- Try another browser such as Chrome, Firefox or Edge, or another device.
- Don't use the back button in the middle of an application.
Lodgement error messages
Home Affairs treats these as common and asks you to check them first. Read the message carefully. It often names the field that is missing or wrong. Fix it and try again.
If a message doesn't make sense, take a screenshot and note the time. You will need it if you contact the department.
When should I use the technical support form?
When the problem is a technical fault in your ImmiAccount or online application, and you have already checked the points above. The department says:
- it is not for account access or recovery (use the login page links),
- it cannot answer questions about visa eligibility or options, or the status of applications,
- it aims to respond within ten business days, and you should not send repeat requests in that time.
