What is an ImmiAccount used for?

Home Affairs says you can use an ImmiAccount to apply for a visa or citizenship, apply for an APEC Business Travel Card, apply for Australian Trusted Trader, and access LEGENDcom. It can also be used to create a Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) account for an organisation.

You don't use it to apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA).

Should I make an individual or an organisation account?

If you're applying for yourself, or helping a family member or friend, choose an individual account. If you work for an organisation, are a registered migration agent, or are with a sponsoring company, choose an organisation account.

Five things that stop most problems

  1. Use your own email address. You'll need it for confirmation, and for some MFA and recovery steps.
  2. Keep your secret question answers. You may need the exact answers to get back in.
  3. Set up MFA with an authenticator app. Home Affairs lists Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Duo Mobile as examples.
  4. Don't share your login. The Law Council of Australia has advised people to stop sharing ImmiAccount credentials and to create their own accounts.
  5. Keep your own copies of documents. Home Affairs says you can't view uploaded supporting documents in ImmiAccount afterwards.

When should I contact Home Affairs?

Check the common causes first. Home Affairs asks you to rule out maintenance or technical faults, payment problems, attachment problems and lodgement error messages before you contact it.

If it is still a technical problem with your account or application, use the ImmiAccount technical support form. The department says not to use that form for account access or recovery. For those, use the forgotten username, forgotten password or lost MFA links on the login page. The department aims to respond within ten business days and asks you not to send repeat requests in that time.

FAQ

Is ImmiAccount the same as VEVO?

No. VEVO is a separate system for checking visa conditions. See ImmiAccount vs VEVO.

Do I need an ImmiAccount for a tourist visa?

It depends on the visa. Home Affairs says ImmiAccount is not used for an ETA.

Can someone else make my ImmiAccount for me?

Home Affairs says a family member or friend can create an individual ImmiAccount to help with an application. It is safer to make your own and not share the login.

Where do I sign in?

Use the ImmiAccount login link on the Home Affairs website. Check the address before you enter your details.
