Try a free practice round

Each round has 20 multiple-choice questions picked at random: 5 on Australian values and 15 on government, history and everyday life. To pass a round you need 15 or more correct, including all 5 values questions. The questions are our own. This is practice only and is not the official test.

What is on the test?

The questions cover Australia and its people, Australia's democratic beliefs, rights and liberties, government and the law in Australia, and an understanding of and commitment to Australian values based on freedom, respect and equality. It also shows your basic English.

What score do I need?

75% or more overall, and all 5 questions on Australian values correct. On a 20-question test, 75% is 15 correct.

How do I study?

The official booklet Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond is all you need. It is free, and it comes in English and a range of community languages, with a podcast series. Home Affairs does not endorse or recommend external courses, including paid apps. Our practice questions below are original and are not the real test, which uses different questions.

Who does not sit the test?

People under 18 or 60 and over, those with a permanent or enduring physical or mental incapacity, and some others. They may have an interview instead, to confirm their identity and show they understand their application. See the citizenship interview.
