Queensland state nomination (190 and 491)

Queensland nominates for the 190 and the 491. There are pathways for skilled workers living in Queensland, skilled workers living overseas, building and construction workers, Queensland university graduates, and (491 only) small business owners in regional Queensland. Applicants who were already invited and have applied will continue to be assessed once new places arrive.

Rules from the last published settings

These are the minimum requirements that applied in 2025-26. Expect them to be reviewed.

All pathways: a score of 65 or higher on the points test, at least Competent English, and an occupation on the relevant Queensland skills list. You need a SkillSelect EOI and a Queensland ROI.

Living and working in Queensland (onshore): - Occupation on the Queensland Onshore Skills List. Chefs and cooks cannot qualify by working in takeaway or fast-food businesses. - Immediately before registering you have been living and working for 9 months in Queensland (190) or 6 months in regional Queensland (491), after completing your qualification, for at least 20 hours a week, in an occupation with the same first three ANZSCO digits as your nominated occupation. - Casual work is accepted, jobs can be combined, and working from home is allowed where the employer has a physical presence in Queensland. - You must still be in that role when you submit the ROI, when you are selected and when you are nominated. - You commit to live and work in Queensland for 2 years after a 190 is granted, or in regional Queensland for 3 years after a 491 is granted.

Living overseas: an occupation on the Queensland Offshore Skills List and at least one year of skilled experience in your nominated or a closely related occupation, still employed in it when invited and nominated.

Queensland graduates: a bachelor's, master's or PhD from a Queensland university or institute, 100% completed in Queensland and graduated after 1 July 2021, plus the onshore work requirement.

Building and construction: Queensland aims to nominate construction workers for the 190 so they can work anywhere in the state, and uses the 491 only if they do not meet the 190 requirements or the occupation is regional-only.

If you hold or have applied for a 491 or a 489, you are not eligible for a 190 nomination.
