How does it work?

Submit a SkillSelect EOI, then lodge a Registration of Interest (ROI) through the Migration Tasmania Gateway. ROIs are ranked on priority attributes. Pathways named: skilled employment, graduates, established residents, business operators and selected overseas candidates.

When did it open and where does it stand?

ROIs opened on 17 August 2026, with weekly invitation rounds from 20 August spread across the year. In the round on 23 October 2026 Tasmania invited 38 ROIs for the 190 (lowest score 317) and 32 for the 491 (lowest score 76). At that date 902 places remained for the 190 and 670 for the 491, with 850 and 616 ROIs waiting. The lowest score needed to be approved at assessment is a rolling three-month average of the lowest invited scores, and was 416 for the 190 and 81 for the 491. Gold pass holders who do not meet the Gold attribute are declined regardless of score.

The 491 Overseas Skilled Occupation pathway issues no invitations in 2026-27, though overseas health and teaching professionals with a Tasmanian job offer can still be nominated for the 190. The application portal is at apply.migration.tas.gov.au.

What changed for 2026-27?

  • the A$57,000 threshold is now called the "priority income level"
  • the qualifying business income for the 190 Established Resident pathway rises to A$79,423 (the TSMIT/CSIT figure)
  • employment must average at least 20 hours a week, with study-period work for graduates at 9 hours
  • from 1 December 2026, massage therapy and motor mechanic experience must be in specified settings to count
  • documents: superannuation statements from the ATO (fund statements no longer accepted) and other evidence

Points attributes were revised across pathways. The summary lists many; read it on Migration Tasmania for your pathway.
