What is an EOI?

An EOI is your online "I'm interested" record in SkillSelect. Home Affairs says anyone seeking a Skilled Independent (189), Skilled Nominated (190) or Skilled Work Regional (491) visa must submit an EOI before being invited to apply.

What goes in an EOI?

Home Affairs says it covers your personal, educational and professional background, plus your English test results and skills assessment results as you receive them. Points are awarded for age, work experience, educational qualifications and English proficiency.

How do I submit an EOI?

  1. Get ready to sign in. See how to create an ImmiAccount.
  2. Enter your details in SkillSelect and save at each step until it is complete.
  3. Check the indicative points score SkillSelect shows.
  4. Submit.

Home Affairs advises saving your EOI at each step until it is complete.

Can I change my EOI?

Yes. Home Affairs says: "If your circumstances change you can update your EOI any time before receiving an invitation to apply for a skilled visa."

What if my partner has more points?

Home Affairs suggests that if your partner meets the points threshold and you do not, they could submit the EOI as the primary applicant and include you as a family member.

What happens after an invitation?

You have 60 days from the invitation date to submit your visa application. Meeting the 65-point threshold doesn't guarantee an invitation. See invitation rounds.

Does it cost anything?

States may charge their own fees for nomination, and the visa application has a charge. See fees.
